The Royal Canadian Mounted Police formally welcomed Kevin Brosseau as new Commanding Officer to “D” Division. Assistant Commissioner Kevin Brosseau assumed command from Assistant Commissioner D.W. (Bill) Robinson (Rtd.) during a Change of Command ceremony held at the Minto Armouries in Winnipeg.

“I am humbled and honoured to lead the men and women of the RCMP in Manitoba,” said Assistant Commr. Brosseau in his first official address as Commanding Officer of “D” Division. “I look forward to working with the communities we serve to ensure a safe and secure Manitoba.”

Among the dignitaries in attendance were: Lieutenant Governor Philip S. Lee; RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson; Honourable Andrew Swan, Manitoba Minister of Justice and Attorney General; representatives from municipal, provincial and federal organizations; policing partners; friends and family. The ceremony included a prayer from an Aboriginal elder, speeches, and a formal parade of RCMP members in Red Serge supported by RCMP Veterans.

“In keeping with the spirit of the collaborative approach of the new Provincial Police Services Agreement signed earlier this year, Assistant Commissioner Brosseau was unanimously selected by a panel of senior RCMP and Province of Manitoba representatives,” said RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson. “His extensive law enforcement, legal and policy experience will serve Manitobans well. I look forward to working with Kevin on our ongoing efforts to modernize how we do business.”

There are 1440 RCMP “D” Division employees working in 52 detachments across the east, west, and north districts, as well as at Division Headquarters in Winnipeg. “D” Division also provides policing under 22 municipal contracts and 7 community tripartite agreements. In Manitoba, the RCMP polices more than half a million square kilometers and 497 kms of the Canada-U.S. border.
