Despite unpleasant weather conditions on Saturday, many people made their way to the Steinbach Fire Hall to dispose of old hazardous waste materials.

A total of 402 cars came through on Saturday to dispose of hazardous items. This number is just short of last year’s total of 413 cars.

“Although the numbers were slightly lower this year, the amount of hazardous waste dropped off increased,” said Eldon Wallman, Solid Waste Department Head.

Many people called or stopped by asking to drop off their old electronics as well. Wallman reminds the public that Eastman Recycling Services runs an E-Waste program and they will begin accepting electronic items in mid May.
