A pastor from Steinbach was recently honoured for his significant contribution to the community and crime prevention.

On November 21, Jim Harms received the Rev. Harry Lehotsky Award for Community Activism for his contributions within the City of  Steinbach, and with youth in the southeast.

The Rev. Harry Lehotsky award was part of a number that were handed out as part of the 2008 Manitoba Attorney General Safer Communities Awards and the Excellence in Law Enforcement Awards. The awards are presented in recognition of organizations and individuals who made outstanding contributions to crime prevention in Manitoba.

Harms is an active member of the community and has been involved with Youth for Christ programs since 1986. He was recognized as being a key player in bringing changes in young people over the years.

As a director and driving force Harms has been instrumental in bringing youth initiatives to Steinbach, including Backstage Drop in Center, the skate park, and Uturn, which is a housing project geared towards helping youth in distress.
