The City of Steinbach recently received notice of financial support for four of its projects from the Manitoba Community Places Program.
A letter from the Minister of Heritage, Culture, Tourism and Sport announced that the City would be receiving grants for the following:
Jake Epp Library Expansion – $40,000
TG Smith Center Arena Roof Repairs – $15,000
Cypress Park Development Project – $15,000
A.D. Penner Park Picnic Shelter Roof Repairs – $ 7,000
The City applied for three of the grants with the exception being the Cypress Park Development Project, which was driven by a local neighbourhood group.
Project Coordinator for the Cypress Park application, Susan Penner said, “I am very pleased with the amount the Cypress Park Development Project received from Community Places. The families in the neighborhoods surrounding the park, and numerous businesses, have been very generous. As a result, we were fortunate to receive a large amount for Phase One of this project – a play space. I believe the play space will get plenty of use not only by neighborhood families, but also by many other families who use the walking path connecting Loewen Boulevard to A.D. Penner Park. I am hopeful that it will be ready by the end of August.”
The City of Steinbach is still hoping for a Capital grant to help with the costs of the Jake Epp Library expansion planned for this fall.
