Wrapping, singing and bowling may not seem to have anything in common with celebrating Christmas but they do for the Air Cadets.

From mid December to Christmas eve the Air Cadets can be found at Clearspring mall in Steinbach, wrapping gifts as part of their December fundraising. AC K.Benson showed off his holiday spirit with his Santa hat . He had a lot to say about the process and how to do it right. “I love to wrap presents, I’ve been doing it since I was really young. “”It makes me feel good to do this.” FlCpl J.Schram and Sgt T.J. Friesen could not hold back their excitement when they were asked to wrap a box over six feet long. They both agreed, “This is the biggest box that we have ever wrapped.” The effort drew a small crowd of shoppers in the mall. The Cadets were told what was in the box, but they are sworn to secrecy until after Christmas.

Joining up with the Legion and Ladies Auxillary in a bake sale Friday  and Saturday to help with fundraising and share experience, “is a great way to help each other out” said Dawn Nesom past chair and volunteer of the sponsoring committee. “We really need to work together and keep on helping our community.”

With music and choir experience in her background Heather Benson one of the volunteer parents coached a team of “Cadet Carolers”.  Cadets shared there love of music and Christmas Carols with seniors and staff at Bethesda Place in Steinbach.

Winding up 2008 as a team the Cadets celebrated together over pizza and glow bowling at the Steinbach bowling alley. While they were cheering each other on you could see the big picture. When these kids are together it is like watching one very big family, enjoying their time with each other.
