The Royal Canadian Mounted Police “D” Division (RCMP) with the Manitoba Metis Federation Inc. (MMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding supporting common goals to enhance relations and public safety, prevent potential conflict and improve police service delivery to Metis Citizens in Manitoba.
Effective today, one staff from the RCMP D Division Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services program will be assigned, on a full time basis, to work at the Manitoba Metis Federation Home Office. The staff will be relocated at the workplace with the purpose to foster improved communication and liaise on policing and public safety matters of mutual concern.
“This agreement is a further testament that by continuing to work together, we will develop better approaches that enhance the relationship between the RCMP and the Metis Community,” said Assistant Commissioner D.W. (Bill) Robinson Commanding Officer of RCMP “D” Division.
“I want to commend Commissioner Robinson in moving forward with this long overdue initiative,” said MMF President David Chartrand. “This forward-thinking Memorandum of Understanding will certainly help to develop an atmosphere of trust and understanding between the RCMP and our Metis communities.”
