FOB Price report
It is widely believed by special crops farmers across North America that they have been kept in the dark when it comes to price discovery for beans, peas, lentils, canary seed and the like. Now, through a cooperative agreement with the Manitoba Pulse Growers Association, the Northarvest Bean Growers Association, as well as Dealers throughout Canada and the US, Multigrain International, LLC has built a new tool for farmers to track and instantly report on special crop prices.
Colorado based Multigrain, an international marketing company specializing in the export of Canadian and US “pulses” has built a proprietary tool for the purpose of managing prices on world special crops. Its clients are international wholesale distributors that up until the latest economic crisis have been pulling away from North American pulses in favor of cheaper and many times questionable quality coming out of China and South America.
Outside of price, one of the factors that generally increases export sales is the transparency of prices on the world market. In order to divert the attention of buyers back to North American production, Multigrain has built price transparency into an innovative web based tool that now reaches down the vertical chain back to the farmer.
This system is designed and built by 18 year veteran pulse trader and international broker George A. Jibilian. Multigrain’s owner and founder has been developing this system out of response to a lack of reliable pricing information expressed by farmers, dealers and international buyers throughout his career.
“The purpose of this tool is to democratize much of the information that up until now has been held in the hands of the large multinational companies that have had a vested interest in keeping the farmer slightly less than informed,” says Jibilian. “In my opinion, and in the opinion of the USDA, price transparency leads to quicker, better informed decisions and to economic stability to both farmer and buyer.”
Dr. Howard Schwartz of Colorado State University, Colorado Extension, and Publisher of the Colorado Bean News adds, “I feel that the tool will give [producers] access to more current information on prices for their product when negotiating with dealers to sell their crop, deal with their bankers on the value of their crop, justification for crop insurance, etc.”
Multigrain is now offering free limited FOB pricing data to farmers across Manitoba, with additional, mission critical information for $35-60 per month depending on the level of detail.
