Steinbach’s 2010 Household Hazardous Waste Day saw the largest participation since its beginning in 2006.
About 560 vehicles came through to drop off hazardous waste this past Saturday. The next highest number was in 2008 with 413 vehicles.
“More and more people are hearing about the event and choosing to be environmentally responsible when it comes to disposing of household hazardous items”, said Eldon Wallman, Solid Waste Department Head. Several people commented on how there needs to be more than one Household Hazardous Waste Day like this a year and plans are in the works to make that a reality.
Many thanks to the Steinbach Fire Department, City Solid Waste Department, and Miller Environmental for another safe and successful event.
A reminder to the public that used oil and tires can be recycled year round at the Steinbach Landfill’s Eco Centre, located at 104 Hanover Road East.
