Valley City State University head women’s volleyball coach Craig Case is pleased to announce the signing of Anna Neufeld from Steinbach Regional Secondary School in Steinbach, Manitoba.
The standout setter is the daughter of Ed and Jacquie Neufeld. “Anna is a huge piece to the puzzle we’re putting together here”, commented Case. “She provides instant depth at setter and then has the athleticism to play multiple positions. She can set, hit, block, and defend at very high levels”.
The 5’9″ Neufeld was the captain for the Steinbach Sabers this past season leading them on and off the court. Anna excelled in the classroom, the volleyball court, and on the soccer field being named to the Provincial All-Star team. “One of the things that is blatantly obvious when you watch Anna play is how athletically gifted she is. When I watched her play she ran down nearly every single ball and as a setter that’s a great asset”, stated Case.
When asked about attending VCSU Anna commented, “I was very impressed with the campus. The buildings are old and beautiful. I was equally impressed with all the people I met. Everyone seemed to be genuinely interested in me as a person, and was really proud to be part of VCSU. And I absolutely loved Graichen gym”!
Neufeld continued, “As a setter, I rely on great passing to help me do my job, and the players at VCSU are great passers. I look forward to the opportunity to get the ball to awesome hitters. I could tell the team enjoys playing together and also hanging out together. I am looking forward to being on a team with that kind of atmosphere. The team seems to take pride in their role as VCSU student athletes”.
“Anna is going to bring a great deal to our program. She’s a student of the game, is meticulous in how she plays, and best of all has a great flow to her game. I’m excited to see her career unfold and to watch her develop into an even more impressive player”, stated Case.
Anna concluded by saying, “I am confident I will get a terrific education at VCSU, and I get to play volleyball with an amazing bunch of players too! The volleyball program is upbeat, and it is clear that VCSU is interested in building a championship team”.
Anna joins Aurissa Martens (Manitou, Manitoba), Trisha Goerts (Casselton, North Dakota), Marah Olson (Enderlin, North Dakota), Mattie Cruff (Valley City, North Dakota), Brenna Johansen (Beulah, North Dakota) and Beth Jochim (Cooperstown, North Dakota) as signees for VCSU’s 2010 class.
