The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is pleased to introduce Honour, Hunter, Hansum, Happy, Hero, and Hancuf; the six RCMP foals that have names thanks to the creativity of Canadian youth.

Each spring, the annual RCMP “Name the Foal” contest asks Canadians under the age of 14 to submit names for six of the foals born at the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham, Ontario. This year the names had to begin with the letter “H”.

Thousands of entries were received during the course of the two-month contest. Each submission was carefully considered by members of the RCMP Musical Ride Branch. The six winning names were chosen based on originality and how well they reflected the six foals that may one day be part of the world-famous Musical Ride.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted an entry. The winning names were submitted by:

• Christina Seabrook, Sooke, British Columbia – Honour

• Nathan Moore, Coutts, Alberta – Hunter

• Mrs. Mackenzie’s class, Reston Elementary School, Reston, Manitoba – Hansum

• Lauren Morry, Ottawa, Ontario – Happy

• Carolane Grenier, Sainte-Martine, Quebec – Hero

• Jordann Tulloch, Mount Stewart, Prince Edward Island – Hancuf

All the winners will receive an authentic RCMP Stetson, a colour photo of the foal they named, and a certificate signed by the Commissioner of the RCMP.
