At the Steinbach City Council meeting last Tuesday, City Council resolved not to proceed with the original expansion plan of the Jake Epp Library, which had been approved by the Manitoba Municipal Board earlier as a $2.85 million project.
Council has scaled down the expansion to a budget of $1.9 million, of which $900,000 will come from debt creation and $400,000 from other city funds. The remaining $600,000 will be through a provincial grant.
Next steps involve the City working with the Library and the architect to develop new preliminary plans to fit the revised budget.
Council will be presented with the new plans in early 2011.
