On September 19, 2014, at approximately 5:44pm, RCMP were called to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 (Perimeter Highway), one kilometre north of Portage avenue.

Police say that a 2014 Peterbilt semi, pulling no trailer, was traveling northbound on the perimeter highway, lost control and hit the east bound ditch. Investigation revealed that the semi had hydroplaned, lost control, hit another vehicle (a 2003 Audi A4 from Balmoral, MB) and then rolled two or three times. Road conditions were poor at the time as heavy amounts of rain had just fallen on the roadway.

RCMP report no injuries to the lone occupant of the vehicle that was struck by the semi, but the occupants of the semi, a 49-year-old male driver from Ile des Chennes and passenger, a 22-year-old male from Gimli, were taken to the Health Science Centre Hospital.

The driver at the time of the incident was listed as critical and was being brought into surgery. The passenger of the semi was in stable condition. Two dogs in the semi unit also received minor injuries and were looked after by emergency animal services.  All injured are expected to survive.
