Canada’s Conservatives Guarantee Increased Health Care Funding for Provinces

Last week, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer announced our Health and Social Program Guarantee.

“Healthcare is a concern that we hear, our candidates hear, that I hear on the road in every province in this country,” Scheer said.

From pre-natal care, through birth, childhood, adolescence and adulthood, to the end of life when palliative or end-of-life care is needed, Canadians rely on our public health care system for everything from check-ups to life-saving treatments.

While healthcare falls primarily under the jurisdiction of the provinces, the federal government provides critical funding.

Under a new Conservative government, Canadians will be able to count on stable and predictable health and social program funding.

Stable federal funding is important to ensure a quality public health care system in every province. It is critical for Canadians to have confidence that these programs will be there when they need them. That’s what this guarantee is about.

Andrew Scheer has committed to increasing the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and the Canada Social Transfer (CST) by at least 3% per year, as the current legislation mandates.

In 2019-2020, these two transfers will provide $55 billion to provinces and territories to meet the needs of Canadians.

Andrew Scheer made this commitment in a letter to provincial and territorial leaders.

Unlike Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, Canada’s Conservatives are committed to working with provincial leaders rather than lecturing and attacking them.

By working together, we can provide Canadians with better health care.

This Guarantee is just another example of our positive Conservative vision for Canada.
