Carbon Tax Coverup Continues

For more than two years, Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have refused to tell Canadians how much their Carbon Tax will cost them – or just how high it will go.

As recently as June 2019, the Trudeau Liberals tried to convince Canadians that they would freeze the Carbon Tax after the next election. Canadians will not be shocked to learn they now appear to be backtracking on that promise.

On Sunday, Environment Minister Catherine Mckenna indicated to the Globe and Mail that they are indeed considering increasing the Carbon Tax if re-elected.

According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, the Liberal Carbon Tax would need to be increased, from the current $20 per tonne to $102 per tonne, in order to achieve Canada’s emissions reductions targets. That’s five times more expensive than it is today.

Moreover, internal government documents show the cost of the Carbon Tax could rise from its current $20 per tonne to a whopping $300 per tonne – 15 times higher.

That is a bitter pill to swallow for already over-taxed Canadian families who are struggling to pay their bills – especially considering the Liberals’ much touted Carbon Tax Rebate turned out to be less money than they promised.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have spent the last four years making life less affordable for Canadians.

More than 80% of middle-income families have already seen their tax bills increase under the Trudeau Liberals.

The Liberal Carbon Tax makes everything from gas to groceries to home heating more expensive, while doing little to reduce emissions.

An increase in the price of food, gas, or an electricity bill is a big deal to families trying to live within their monthly budgets. It is a big deal to seniors living on a fixed income and it is a big deal to small businesses trying to keep operations afloat.

Justin Trudeau either doesn’t understand the plight of Canadian families, or else he just doesn’t care. Either way, Canadians deserve better.

Fortunately, there is good news for Canadians.

The first act of a new Conservative government, under Prime Minister Andrew Scheer, will be to scrap the Liberal Carbon Tax.

We also plan to eliminate the GST from home heating and electricity bills.

Canada’s Conservatives understand that Canadians need tax relief, not more new taxes. You cannot tax your way to a cleaner environment any more than you can tax your way to a stronger economy.

Andrew Scheer understands the kitchen-table issues facing Canadians. Our Conservative team is working hard to create common-sense policies that will protect our environment without adding to the financial burden of Canadian families. We’re working hard to help you get ahead, by putting money back in your pockets where it belongs.
