New PCH Beds Underway

For too long, many local residents who have needed personal care home support have had to move to communities far from Steinbach. For a city that is the third largest in Manitoba, this simply wasn’t an acceptable situation.

Our government committed to addressing this long-standing problem and today, construction is underway on an expanded Rest Haven personal care home that will see it grow from the current capacity of 60 beds to 143. This is a significant project for the entire region. When completed in 2021, the new facility will be based on a community within a community model with rooms clustered in groups of 11 or 12, each with private washrooms and showers. Each cluster will have a large gathering space, lounge, dining and activity space.

This project has been dreamed of for many years and it is now happening because of the dedication of many people. The commitment of the board of HavenGroup along with their CEO David Driedger has been vital in seeing this project progress.

It also would not be possible without the support of the Bethesda Foundation which is contributing millions of dollars to this facility. All those involved with the Bethesda Foundation do an incredible job of helping to advance healthcare projects in Steinbach. The work they do is made possible by the many generous donors who give to their fundraising campaigns.

As the construction of the new personal care home beds proceeds over the next months there will be disruption in the existing facility and construction activity in the area. Local residents have waited patiently for this project a long time and their continued understanding will be rewarded with a facility that will serve the needs of families for many years to come. Thank you to all those who have been involved in making the expanded Rest Haven possible and who are bringing it to completion.
