View From the Legislature

I had the honour of attending the Grand Opening of the Seven Oaks Hospital Chronic Disease Innovation Centre last week, with my colleague Nic Curry, MLA for Kildonan.

The second session of the 41st legislature concluded last week, having passed numerous government bills focused on fixing the finances, repairing the services and rebuilding the economy.

As the first snow falls around Steinbach and Remembrance Day gets closer, people from across our country are starting to set aside time to formally remember and give thanks to those that have served and those that do still today.

It was an honour to stand in the Manitoba Legislature on Tuesday to recognize the community accomplishments of Gilbert Fehr, in a Private Member’s Statement.

We are three weeks into the first phase of clinical consolidation and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority provided an update on the implementation of the changes to health care services in the region, including some early observations of the robust strategy developed to monitor effects on patient flow, safety, patient experience and the workforce.

I had the honour of attending the recent federal/provincial/territorial (FPT) health meeting, held last week in Edmonton, Alberta.

I am so proud to see that Steinbach has become the most litter-free city in North America.

Last Friday Manitoba Health launched the 2017-18 influenza immunization campaign.

Our government alongside the Provincial Road Safety Committee has provided Manitobans with a new vision to have the safest roads in Canada and lays the groundwork toward the goal of zero traffic fatalities on our roadways.

Later this month I look forward to meeting with Health Ministers from across Canada along with the new federal Minister of Health.
