View From the Legislature

Last Friday I had the opportunity as the Minister of Health to speak to students at Shaftesbury High school in Winnipeg and Steinbach Regional Secondary School in Steinbach about fentanyl awareness.

Last weekend I welcomed the opportunity to join my federal, provincial and territorial counterparts, as well as public health professionals from across Canada, in Ottawa for important discussions around the opioid crisis facing our country.

It was my pleasure this week to honour in the Legislature Ten Thousand Villages through a Private Member’s Statement, as well as to recognize the community contributions of the Steinbach location, and it’s near 30 volunteers and staff.

Last week I was pleased to announce that KPMG LLP has been awarded the contract for the Health Care Sustainability and Innovation Review in Manitoba.

As the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, I am pleased to announce that our government has appointed new boards for the five provincial regional health authorities, to guide the provision of health-care services across the province.

Remembrance Day for Canadians is a time that is set aside to formally remember and give thanks to those that have served and those that do still today.

As the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, I am proud to congratulate those Manitobans who have received a Manitoba Council on Aging Recognition Award.

Over the past weeks, our government has heard from hundreds of Manitobans who attended recently completed in-person pre-budget meetings across the province.

Last week I attended meetings in Toronto with health ministers from across Canada. We were joined on one day of the meetings by federal Health Minister Jane Philpott.

Last Thursday I had the privilege of honouring at the Manitoba Legislature two organizations that have teamed together to help students get the school supplies they need.
