The Mennonite Heritage Village, as a total project, has been a product of countless hands and hearts that have helped to bring it to fruition.
Everyone knows that the Mennonite Heritage Village provides school programs to thousands of elementary school children every year.
MHV has a wonderful arrangement with a group of local artisans who display and sell their works in the General Store during our “tourist” season.
One of the newest artifacts at Mennonite Heritage Village is a pair of hand-made ice skates. The skates were donated by Ken Kristjansen. It is estimated that they are more than 100 years old.
MHV has many artifacts that need varying degrees of restoration work. One that is being focused on now is a hay wagon.
The opening sentence of an article in last Saturday’s Winnipeg Free Press says, “Quietly and without notice, Dalnavert Museum was closed over the Labour Day weekend.”
In 2014 we will celebrate our 50th anniversary as a museum.
Last Sunday the MHV Auxiliary held their annual Turkey Dinner. This is always a great opportunity for us to rub shoulders with friends of the museum and introduce our facility to some newcomers.
Mennonite Heritage Village has not always highlighted its monuments as it well might have.
Since this post is being written during the Thanksgiving weekend, my thoughts are focused on those things for which I am thankful.
