A 17-year-old Winnipeg male was recently arrested and charged after the SUV he was driving collided with a pickup truck in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews. The incident resulted in the death of a man from the community.

On July 18, 2022, at approximately 10:30pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 230, in the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba.

Initial police investigation determined that an SUV, traveling west on Highway 230, entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so and collided with a pickup truck traveling north on Highway 8. The pickup was reported to have had four occupants and was pulling a camper trailer at the time of the incident.

As a result of the collision, the pickup rolled into the ditch. One passenger in the truck, a 20-year-old RM of St. Andrews man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second passenger, a 44-year-old RM of St. Andrews woman, was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver, a 46-year-old male, and the last passenger, a 20-year-old female, were both transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP report that the driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 17-year-old male from Winnipeg, suffered minor injuries. He was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Selkirk RCMP along with the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate this incident.
