A 31-year-old Steinbach man is facing numerous theft related charges after recently being arrested by Lac du Bonnet RCMP. The incident was in response to a report of a stolen off-road vehicle siting within the municipality.

On August 5, 2022, at approximately 10:25am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report that a stolen side-by-side off-road vehicle was seen towing a trailer on the service road located beside Highway 44 in the RM of Lac du Bonnet.

Officers attended the area immediately and were able to track the ORV and an ATV to a nearby gravel pit.

Police say that one male suspect, a 36-year-old from Ste. Anne, was taken into custody without incident. The other male suspect attempted to flee in the stolen ORV, which he was unable to start, and as a result tried to flee on foot. Subsequently, the was suspect was apprehended by an officer.

RCMP report that 31-year-old Matthew Martens from Steinbach has been remanded in custody on charges of possession of property obtained by crime, possessing break-in instruments, possessing weapons contrary to order and resisting arrest. The other suspect has been released to appear in court on similar charges.

Police noted that the ORV and ATV were stolen and the trailer being pulled by the ORV was full of stolen property from a break and enter in the RM of Reynolds that had not yet been reported. The estimated value of the recovered stolen property is between $20,000 and $30,000.
