RCMP Traffic Services intercepted a large quantity of marijuana this past week as a result of a vehicle stop in West Hawk Lake.

On April 3, 2017, at approximately 12:20pm, RCMP Traffic Services stopped a commercial motor vehicle in West Hawk Lake for a regulatory vehicle inspection. The load had originated in British Columbia and was destined for Mississauga, Ontario.

Subsequent police investigation uncovered 118 pounds of marijuana hidden within the cargo.

“We are committed to safer highways and communities, and any interruption in the drug supply contributes to this,” said Inspector Ed Moreland, Officer in Charge of Traffic Services in Manitoba. “Apprehending such criminality is a role we take very seriously.”

RCMP report that 29-year-old Dunken Trask of Vancouver, BC has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Trask is scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg on May 11, 2017. The transport truck operated by Trask has been seized under Manitoba’s Criminal Property Forfeiture Act.
