St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP are reporting that an 81-year-old Mitchell, Manitoba man has recently died as the result of a vehicle collision that occurred in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

On August 8, 2023, at approximately 2:05pm, St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at a location on Highway 52, just west of Provincial Road 216, in the RM of Hanover.

Investigators believe that a semi-trailer, being driven by a 43-year-old Steinbach man, was traveling west on Highway 52, when it collided with a westbound pickup truck, being driven by an 81-year-old male from Mitchell. The pickup truck appeared to be slow moving and may have come to a near stop in the westbound lane when it was struck from behind.

RCMP report that the 81-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the semi-trailer suffered minor physical injuries.

St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP, along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate this incident.
