Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking the public for any information that may help identify a suspect involved in a recent break and enter that occurred in the community.

On August 8, 2025, at approximately 6:20pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a report of a break and enter on Royal Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were advised by the residents that two male suspects, who stated they were RCMP officers, asked them to open the door. Police say that the suspects then tried to push their way inside, breaking a door and a window on the porch of the residence. After not gaining entry, the suspects subsequently fled the scene in a white sedan.

Initial police investigation has determined the identity of one of the suspects as 27-year-old Christian Meeches from Long Plain First Nation. RCMP have issued a warrant for his arrest.

RCMP are currently looking to identify the other male suspect who was wearing a white hoodie at the time the incident.

If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Christian Meeches or the identity of the second suspect, they are asked to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment at 204-857-4445 or call CrimeStoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
