Steinbach RCMP are reporting that two male suspects, one from Steinbach, the other from Ste. Anne, have been arrested and charged in connection to the discovery of drugs resulting from a traffic stop.
On February 24, 2026, at 4am, Steinbach RCMP were conducting traffic enforcement in La Broquerie when they observed a minivan driving slowly in a residential area. The vehicle was observed going into a driveway but then left shortly after, continuing to drive slowly.
Police say that the suspicious behaviour led officers to initiate a traffic stop. Officers then learned through police checks that the driver was breaching his curfew as per his release conditions and was subsequently arrested.
Initial investigation led officers to the discovery of drugs inside the vehicle. Upon further searching of the vehicle, officers discovered what is believed to be cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as Canadian currency, other drug paraphernalia, a home-made conducted energy weapon and break-in instruments.
RCMP report that 29-year-old Jacob Reimer of Steinbach is now facing charges of possession of break-in instruments, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon, six counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. 34-year-old Wayne Town of Ste. Anne has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Members noted that both individuals were remanded into custody and that the investigation is ongoing.
