Selkirk RCMP are reporting that with the assistance of police service dog Stewie, a male suspect was recently located and arrested in connection to a home invasion that occurred in the community.
On April 1, 2026, at 11:40pm, Selkirk RCMP were notified of a home invasion that had just taken place at a residence located on Mclean Avenue in Selkirk.
Officers responded immediately to the scene and spoke to a male resident. The resident advised police that a male suspect had kicked in the door of his home. The suspect then demanded money from the victim and assaulted him with a knife before fleeing on foot.
Police say that the victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated by EMS on scene.
A description of the suspect was subsequently provided to officers and Manitoba RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS). Patrolling of the area began, and a short time later PDS Stewie located the suspect walking on Main Street.
RCMP report that the suspect, 41-year-old Chad Langlois of Scanterbury, was arrested without incident and is now facing numerous charges, including, assault with weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and breaking and entering with intent.
Members believe that this was a targeted incident and that the victim and suspect are known to each other.
