The Manitoba government and Doctors Manitoba are celebrating a major milestone as the province reaches more than 3,700 physicians in practice, the highest number in Manitoba’s history.

“More doctors in Manitoba means more Manitobans getting connected to care,” said Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara. “In just two years, Manitoba has gone from among the lowest rates of primary care access in Canada to the highest. Reaching more than 3,700 physicians is an important milestone that reflects the work our government is doing to recruit, train and retain health-care professionals across our province. We know there is still more work ahead, but this is encouraging progress for patients and families.”

The milestone comes as Manitoba continues to lead the country in access to primary care, with nearly 89 per cent of Manitobans reporting they have access to a regular primary care provider, according to the 2025 OurCare National Survey.

Since 2023, Manitoba has seen a net increase of more than 355 physicians, helping improve access to primary care and stabilize services in communities across the province.

“We’ve hit a new record high milestone in Manitoba, with 3,700 doctors,” said Dr. Alon Altman, president, Doctors Manitoba. “We’re recruiting doctors at a record rate, and now we have to step up our game and keep them for the longer term.”

The Manitoba government continues to work with health system partners to strengthen recruitment and retention efforts, expand training opportunities and improve access to care for Manitobans.
