On October 18, 2017, Thompson RCMP were called to a residence for a report of a male being shot. When police arrived on scene, a 23-year-old Thompson man was located with a gunshot wound. He was then transported to Winnipeg hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police investigation identified a suspect. As a result, 19-year-old David Baker from Winnipeg was arrested and charged with attempted murder and discharge of a firearm with intent. He remains in custody.

RCMP report that the investigation continues with the assistance of RCMP Major Crime Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services, Northern Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and Forensic Identification Services.
