A 20-year-old Thompson man, who was using cannabis, was recently arrested after local RCMP determined that he was driving while impaired.

On October 18, 2018, at 12:55am, Thompson RCMP had setup a checkstop at the intersection of Cree Road and Deerwood Drive in Thompson, Manitoba. Officers noticed an SUV signalling to turn onto the road where the checkstop was being conducted and then make a sudden turn in the opposite direction, heading away from the checkstop. An officer was able to stop the vehicle and noticed the odour of cannabis and signs of impairment in the driver.

RCMP report that the 20-year-old male driver, from Thompson, admitted to using cannabis. The officer conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, and it was determined the driver was impaired. The driver was then arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by Drug. A blood demand was made, and the driver was transported to the nearest medical facility where a licenced technician drew blood.

Police say that the man’s licence has been suspended and charges are pending.
