At the annual spring convention this past May, District 64 Toastmasters handed out the George Craigie Memorial Award to Steinbach entrepreneur Mike Lynes.

The George Craigie Memorial Award recognizes a Toastmaster, such as Mike, whose contributions have focused on their home club, through the encouragement of membership growth and retention, while continuing to contribute to the District wherever possible.

Mike is a long time dedicated member of Steinbach’s Carillon Toastmasters club that meets Thursday evenings at the Jake Epp Library in Steinbach. Of note, Mike also came in 2nd in the hilarious Humorous Speaking Contest making him the 2nd most humorous speaker in a field of nearly 1,400 members.

District 64 Toastmasters manages the over 100 clubs, nearly 1,400 members, of Manitoba, North Western Ontario and North Western Minnesota – two of which are located in Steinbach (Carillon Toastmasters and Steinbach Professional Development Toastmasters). Their Annual Spring Convention hosts several awards ceremonies, the annual Humorous Speech Contest as well as the world championship of public speaking – the International Speech Contest.
