A 19-year-old male driver, under the influence of drugs, was recently arrested by Steinbach RCMP after he backed into a local business.

On July 10, at approximately 3:15pm, Steinbach RCMP was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at a business located on Main Street in Steinbach.

Police say that emergency personnel and fire services were already on scene when officers arrived. Officers were advised that a vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old male from Steinbach, was backing up in order to park. All of sudden the vehicle appeared to gain speed and backed up into the building, going through it and injuring one employee who was inside the business.

The employee, a 45-year-old female from the RM of De Salaberry, was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

RCMP report that the 19-year-old male driver was arrested for operation while impaired by drugs and was taken to hospital for assessment. He was later released and issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while disqualified.

The investigation continues while police await toxicology results.
