An 85-year-old man has died as the result of a recent three-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Highway 303 (Ridge Road) and Road 31 East in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, Manitoba.

On October 13, 2021, at approximately 3:15pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 303 and Road 31 East. When officers arrived on scene, there had been multiple injured people being treated and transported to hospital.

Initial police investigation determined that a car traveling north on Road 31 E, failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection when it was not safe to do so. The car then struck a minivan traveling west on Highway 303, causing the minivan to enter oncoming traffic and strike an eastbound SUV on Highway 303. As a result, both the minivan and SUV ended up in the ditch.

RCMP report that the minivan had seven occupants including a 64-year-old female driver and six children between the ages of 8-12. All occupants were from the RM of Hanover and were transported to Winnipeg hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say that the driver of the SUV, a 59-year-old Steinbach woman, was transported to Winnipeg hospital with critical injuries. Her 85-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 69-year-old Lorette woman, was not physically injured. She was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. She has been released from custody pending a court date.

The investigation into this incident continues with the assistance of a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team.
