Public health officials are expanding the criteria for the AstraZeneca vaccine to all Manitobans aged 40 and over while continuing to implement measures to increase capacity.

A new public health order is now in effect that will continue the requirement for non-vaccinated staff who work in personal care homes to provide care at a single site and enable vaccinated staff who work in personal care homes to provide care at more than one site.

New public health orders are being introduced this week to slow the spread of variants of concern and protect Manitobans and the health-care system against the third wave of COVID-19 infections.

Powerview RCMP are asking the public for any information into the whereabouts of a missing woman from the Fort Alexander First Nation, 35-year-old Charlene Bunn.

Eligibility to be immunized at a super site or pop-up clinic has been expanded to include individuals aged 54 or older and First Nation people aged 34 or older. The province is reminding the public that help is available to those who must miss work because of a positive COVID-19 result and are not eligible for paid leave through their workplace.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 5.6 per cent provincially and 5.5 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30 a.m. today, 170 new cases of the virus have been identified. However, three cases were removed due to a data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 167 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 36,159.

The Manitoba government is aware of new travel restrictions into Ontario, starting Monday, April 19 at 12:01am. The Ontario government is introducing checkpoints at all of Ontario’s interprovincial borders limiting access at Ontario’s borders with Manitoba and Quebec.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 5.3 per cent provincially and 5.4 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30am on April 17, 2021, 183 new cases of the virus have been identified. The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 35,992.
