A 16-year-old youth operating an ATV ended up in hospital after colliding with a car in the RM of Rhineland.

At approximately 8:40am on March 23, 2011, Altona RCMP, Altona/Rhineland Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision between a car and an Off Road Vehicle (ATV/quad) on Highway 201 and Road 3 West in the RM of Rhineland.

A lone 16-year-old male from RM Rhineland, operating the ATV, was southbound on Road 3 West, when he collided with an eastbound Toyota Echo on Highway 201. The driver of the ATV was taken to Altona General Hospital, then transferred to Winnipeg. The occupants of the car, both from Altona, both in their 60’s, were treated at Altona Hospital and released.

The highway remained closed for approximately 3 hours while the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was on scene.

RCMP report that the driver of the ATV was wearing a helmet and weather, road or alcohol are not considered contributing factors.
