On December 19, 2012, at 11am, Shoal Lake RCMP, EMS and fire were called to a two vehicle collision on Highway 16, 3 km west of Shoal Lake.

RCMP report that a 2005 Honda Civic traveling west, had moved into the oncoming lane to check if it was safe to pass a semi truck and trailer. When it attempted to move back into its lane, the driver, a 19-year-old Winnipeg resident, lost control of the vehicle on a patch of ice and skidded into an on coming vehicle.

The oncoming vehicle, a 2005 Montana, attempted to avoid the Honda Civic, but struck the Honda Civic on the passenger front side of the vehicle. The Montana, driven by a 45-year-old Russell resident, ended up rolling into the ditch. The driver needed to be extricated from the vehicle.

Police say that all 3 occupants were taken to hospital with varying non-life threatening injuries
