On September 7, 2014, just before 4pm, Russell RCMP responded to a collision between a swather and a pickup truck north of Roblin, MB.

Scene of collision

Pickup truck receives extensive damage after colliding with a swather, 20 kilometres north of Roblin.

Police say that the swather and pickup truck were both traveling north on Highway 83, approximately 20 kilometres north of Roblin, when the pickup attempted to pass the swather on a curve of the single-lane highway. The pickup struck the swather, spinning both vehicles into the east ditch.

The 87-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, from Roblin, and the 53-year-old male driver of the swather, from the RM of Shell River, were both transported to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP report that the driver of the pickup truck is facing charges of passing where prohibited.

The RCMP would like to remind motorists that it is harvest time and to be aware of slow-moving vehicles when traveling in agricultural areas. Farm machinery moves significantly slower than other traffic and large machinery can create problems for operators in seeing vehicles immediately behind them. Slow down and share the road.
