Mr. Dubois was one of the original three who joined together to build the St. Malo Arena many years ago.

St. Malo is moving forward with renovations to its arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher and, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for this project that will create jobs for southeastern Manitoba.

“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s investment in the St. Malo arena, which will help ensure that we have access to recreational facilities that enrich and strengthen communities for the long term,” said Minister Toews. “Whether kids are here for fun, or with dreams of something bigger, it is important to recognize the important role our recreational facilities play in the lives of community members.”

Funding of $68,473 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The repairs and upgrades to the St. Malo Arena will enable it to continue delivering quality recreational activity programs during the winter months.

“Exciting moments have been shared and special players have skated in this building,” said Jacques Lambert, Vice President, Club Sportif Yberville. “With the funding, we can now instill a sense of pride and sport back in the community through the rejuvenation and expansion of our recreational facility.”

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $153 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
