On December 17, 2010 at about 11pm, St. Pierre Jolys RCMP Detachment were dispatched to a complaint of a home made explosive device.

Initial reports indicate local Citizens on Patrol members had come across several youths in the Grunthal Fair Grounds attempting to detonate some type of home made explosive device. When they were observed, the youths fled, leaving behind the device. RCMP were contacted and the scene was contained.

RCMP Explosive’s Disposal Unit attended the location. The device was described as a home made incendiary type bomb containing a black powdery substance with small containers of starting fluid and propane cylinders attached to it. The device was dismantled and detonated at the location as a precautionary measure. There were no injuries reported and no damages to any property.

Several suspects have been arrested and interviewed and more arrests are expected. A 16-year-old male youth from the Grunthal area will be appearing in Court in St. Pierre Jolys in February facing criminal code charges.

The investigation is continuing.
