Steinbach celebrates Culturama on Saturday April 10, 2010.
Eastman Immigrant Services is bringing a ‘world’ of culture to Steinbach Saturday April 10th.
This free, full day event will take place at Steinbach 55 Plus from 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM with tons of cultural dance, entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, as well as numerous samples of ethnic food to please the palette.
Culturama was hosted for the first time in Steinbach in the fall of 2008 by Eastman Immigrant Services, with a turnout of over 1000 attendees at the Friday event. With this year’s event taking place on a Saturday, event organizers are anticipating an even larger crowd.
Event Coordinator Zoë Clark explains that “The intent of Culturama is to showcase and share all of the different cultures that are present here in our community. Currently, our community residents represent over 81 different countries—that is a lot of culture to celebrate and share!” Clark continues to note that “Culturama is a family event that allows people to come out and learn about the many cultures present and ‘walk the world in a day’ by experiencing the different cultural dress, entertainment, and of course all of the great food”.
Larry Fedoruk, Executive Director for the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce and Eastman Immigrant Services invites all local businesses and community residents to come out to this event — “Culturama is a first-class event that was created by Eastman Immigrant Services and the quality of this event is comparable to the likes of Folklorama”. Fedoruk continues to note that “With Steinbach’s ever-growing diverse population, this event is a natural fit for our community and certainly an event to be excited about”.
Throughout the course of the day, over 11 different cultural groups will take the stage in the entertainment programme, not including the many cultural children’s activities that will be taking place in the building. Attendees can also browse the work of cultural artisans and crafters, sample food from around the globe, and be eligible to win some great door prizes. Admission to the public for this event is free.
