Obituary

Suddenly, on Saturday, January 12, 2019, Lorenz Borkowsky passed away at home at the age of 83.

Lorenz will be dearly missed by his loving wife Bernice of 59 years, daughter Kimberly Funk (Alan), son Boyd (Marlys) and grandchildren and great-granddaughter Crystal Warner (Stephen), Amy Borkowsky, Tiffany Funk (Tori), and Aryelle Sylvester (Tyler).

Lorenz was predeceased by his mother Ottilie Pachal (1963), father Johan (1971), sister Emily Schultz (1997), brother Fred (2002), sister Erna Crowe (2004), brother Bill (2005), sister Ida Grienke (2011), and sister Frieda Krentz (2015).

Lorenz was born on June 8, 1935 in the Bristol area in Hanover Municipality. At the age of 22, he went to work in Winnipeg for Maple Leaf Flour Mills, as well as helping on the farm. He married Bernice Buss on June 6, 1959. They took over the family homestead, and milk for 37 years. While taking care of the homestead, Lorenz was also a councilor in the Rural Municipality of Hanover for Ward 4 from 1969-1983, and 1998-2006. He was blessed to die at home, where he lived his whole life.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 465 Henry Street, Steinbach, MB with interment at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Friedensfeld, MB. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorenz may be made to the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 465 Henry Street, Steinbach, MB R5G 0H1.
