Obituary

Pastor Cornie J. Wiebe, age 77, of Grunthal, MB passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at DeSalaberry District Health Centre, St. Pierre, MB. He was born on March 22, 1941 in Winkler, Manitoba to Peter and Elizabeth Wiebe. He was married to his sweetheart Agatha on May 22, 1965.

He is survived by his wife Agatha and his four children; Audrey Wiebe, Bev (Tim) Fast, Wanda (Lorne) Bell, and Wes Wiebe, their five grandchildren Jasmine (Darik) Blatz, Cora Fast, Erin (Davin) Tohms, Alana Bell, Ethan Bell. He is also survived by five sisters, one brother, six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

He was predeceased by his parents, in laws, two brothers, one sister and nine brothers-in-law.

Dad nearly died from a major chainsaw accident on April 15, 1977. His and all our lives were changed forever when he committed his life to Jesus on that day, and we all followed suit. Praise the Lord!

Soon after, Dad felt led to attend bible school and graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in Christian studies and was working on his masters and doctorate degree until June of 2018. In November of 1986, dad answered the call to become a pastor in the CMC conference in which he served until his retirement in 2017. Dad’s passions included spending time in the Word, praying and sharing the gospel. He and Mom went on numerous mission trips to Russia, Ukraine, Bolivia, and Jamaica. This passion never left him as even through his sickness, he would talk to the nursing staff and anyone who would visit about Jesus. He told us often that having cancer would all be worth it if even one person came to know Jesus because of it.

Dad and Mom had an incredible marriage which was an example to us all. They loved to spend time with family and friends, sitting around the table or front porch chatting, playing games with the kids and pulling pranks whenever he could. He and mom also loved their coffee dates, devotional times and going for drives.

Dad did have some health struggles through the years. In 2013 he was diagnosed with lymphoma. After undergoing chemo treatments, he was able to recover and beat the cancer. In June 2017, Dad suffered a minor heart attack which required a stint to be put in. Then July 2018, Dad was diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumor. Over the course of the next 5 ½ months, he spent time in Steinbach hospital and HSC, and by the grace of God, he was able to spend six weeks at home before having to return to Steinbach hospital for a few weeks, then finally to St. Pierre for his last four weeks, and passed away peacefully with family at his side.

We will miss him terribly but rejoice that he is finally home!

WONDERFUL!
