Obituary

On Monday, February 11th, 2019, in her 92 year, Aniela passed away peacefully, with her daughter-in-law Bernice by her side, in her home at Holy Family Personal Care Home. As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall, of a face so full of sunshine and a smile for one and all.

Aniela will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Christine Powell, three grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law Bernice Pytlinski, special friends Audry and Tom Choropita and Aniela’s friends at Holy Family.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Pytlinski, husband Eugene Biernacki, son Gene Pytlinski and other love ones.

Aniela was born July 6th, 1926 in Poland. At a young age during the second world war she lost her parents. She decided to travel to Germany on her own to find work to support herself and then moved to Verviers, Belgium where she continued to work until she married Joseph Pytlinski in May, 1949. They immigrated to Canada in May, 1951 with their son Gene and lived in Toronto. Her husband Joseph suddenly passed away in August, 1951 as they were expecting their second child. Their daughter Christine was born the following spring in Toronto.

Aniela and her family later settled in Brantford, Ontario where she remarried Eugene Biernacki in October, 1957. Eugene passed away July, 1992 and Aniela continued to live in Brantford.

Aniela worked at the Ontario School for The Blind (W.Ross Macdonald School) for many years. She was loved by all the children and thoroughly enjoyed her work in the housekeeping department. She retired from the school and then decided to work part-time as a janitor for Taylor Construction Company in Brantford until retirement.

Aniela had a passion for gardening, loved to grow vegetables and tend to her flowers and shrubs (that were always perfectly manicured). She was an excellent cook and made many delicious polish recipes. Aniela was famous in her family for her special polish cookies that her son looked so forward to every year at Christmas.

Aniela was a very brave lady throughout her years. She was forced to become independent at a very young age when she left Poland. She became known for her memorable story telling in her later years, reflecting upon the history of her life. She shared many interesting life stories that gave us a greater appreciation for all she had gone through and accomplished.

Aniela moved to Winnipeg in early 2013 to remain close to her son Gene and daughter-in-law Bernice. She lived at Holy Family Personal Care Home for the last three and a half years. She loved the activities, singing along with the music and playing bingo. She was always on a mission to win at bingo! Aniela made many friends and enjoyed sharing stories with them.

Our sincere thank you to Holy Family Personal Care Home and especially the staff on St. Mary’s Wing, Dr. Andrea Babick and Dr. Terry Babick for all their excellent care. The compassion and spiritual care were also very much appreciated.

Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held in Toronto at a later date.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Aniela may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Your smiles can brighten any moment,
Your hugs put joy in all our days,
Your love will stay with us forever
And touch our lives in precious ways…
