Obituary

Bertha Goossen Giesbrecht was born to Jacob F. and Marie Wiebe Goossen at Rosenort, MB., on May 17, 1926.

Peacefully, with family by her side, our Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma heard the call to come home and left with the angels in the early hour of evening at her home in Maplewood Manor. She left us on February 17, 2019. She lived a full life of 92 years. She suffered much with different illnesses through the years but always bounced back. So, when she had a broken hip surgery, we expected she might do the same, but it was not to be.

Mom married our Dad, Harold R. Giesbrecht on June 2, 1946 by Grandpa Minister Jacob T. Wiebe at Rosenort, MB. When Dad passed away in 2004, Mom was very lonely. But she met the challenges of life head on and decided to be happy in spite of everything. Early in life she learned to work hard and loved it. It was with pleasure that she worked by Dad’s side on their chicken farms, first in Greenland and they soon moved to Whitemouth, MB. They loved to travel together and did so extensively in their later years.

Everybody loved Mom and her quiet ways, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a gentle, caring person.

She gave her life to God at an early age and was baptized on March 29, 1940. She was a happy Christian and left us with a clear testimony.

She leaves behind her children: Phyllis Barkman, Whitemouth, MB., Judy & Gord Janzen, Eden, MB., Valerie & Franklin Penner (presently serving in Cuba), Merle & Roxie, Don & Myrna, both of Whitemouth, MB., and Darryl & Susan, Stettler, AB. Also missing her are 54 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Victor & Nettie and Percy; three sisters: Luana & Marvin Penner, Ella & Gladwin Penner, Anne & Jake Dueck; and her in-laws: Linda Giesbrecht, Leanna Wiebe, Firmin & Aggie Giesbrecht.

Gone before are her husband, one son-in-law and one infant granddaughter. She was also predeceased by two brothers, one sister, nine brothers-in-law and 11 sisters-in-law.

We are grateful for the wonderful care she experienced at the Manor and express our thanks. It was home.
