Obituary

Katarina (Katie) Wohlgemuth Reimer was born to Henry and Katherine Penner Wohlgemuth at Greenland, Manitoba on February 11, 1926. She peacefully passed away on June 13, 2019 at Maplewood Manor with her two precious daughters by her side. She reached the age of 93 years.

Mom answered the call of God in her youth and upon a conversion experience was baptized on May 2, 1940 by Minister Frank Wenger. She embraced this faith until the end.

On February 10, 1957 she joined in marriage to Ernest J Reimer. To this union were born two daughters and one son, who died in infancy. After almost fifty years of married life Dad passed away on December 28, 2006.

Mom would talk about her growing up years. She went to the one room school one mile down the road. Learning was difficult for her and she was very thankful when the teacher asked her to repeat a grade. After her schooling she had various jobs. One that she talked about a fair bit was her years working at Steinbach hospital.

Mom enjoyed her work. As young girls we remember her singing in the basement as she did her laundry. A clean house was important to her. She enjoyed her garden. It brought her great satisfaction to see her pantry stocked with jars of canned goods. After she reached her senior years she spent many hours piecing quilts or knitting scarves to be sent to the needy.

Dad and Mom provided us with a loving Christian home. Their greatest concern was that we would faithfully serve God. Mom often struggled with doubts and fears and it seemed after Dad was no longer here to comfort her she turned to her daughters for that comfort. For some time now it seemed to us that God had helped her to rest that to Him. She shared her beautiful smile even this last week when she was so sick.

Those cherishing precious memories are her daughters, Frieda and Lois Reimer from Steinbach, MB; one sister Nellie Penner, Moundridge, KS; one sister-in-law Helen Wohlgemuth, Steinbach, MB; one brother-in-law Herbert Reimer, Steinbach, MB and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant son, her parents, her parents-in-law, three sisters and four brothers.

We would like to thank the staff at Maplewood Manor for caring so lovingly for Mom the past five and a half years.

The viewing will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. followed by a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Greenland, MB.
