Obituary

Wayne passed away on July 10, 2019 surrounded by loving family.

He is survived by Michelle, his loving wife of 40 years. He leaves behind Gérald (Solange) Lapointe, Mariette (Richard) Joyal, his nieces Roxanne (Marc), Christine (Patrick), his nephews, Eric (Melisa), Stephane (Kerrilee), Yves (Kelli), Rossel (Sherise), and André. He also leaves behind twelve great nephews and nieces, Lily-Rose, Violette, Miel, Fleur, Tarek, Kane, Kyson, Nixon, Hunter, Blake, Finn, and Nora as well as many friends and relatives.

He was predeceased by parents-in-law, Raymond and Irène Lapointe.

Wayne married Michelle (Lapointe) on June 16, 1979, celebrating their 40th anniversary a few weeks ago.

Earlier in life, Wayne worked a variety of positions in the retail sector selling everything from vacuum cleaners to shoes. He then shifted gears and joined the building maintenance department of the Manitoba Legislative Building, a position he enjoyed tremendously. He loved the history of the building, took great pride maintaining it, and most importantly enjoyed the people he worked with.

An enduring interest throughout his life were motorcycles (especially Harleys), and muscle cars. He was very proud that he was still able to ride his Can-Am trike last year. He enjoyed his music, turning up the tunes in his car with favorite artists Bob Marley, UB 40, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Steve Earle. He liked reading and had a passion for western movies and anything to do with the old west. Wayne enjoyed Cowboy Action Shooting, a sport where he developed many great friendships and acquaintances.

Wayne cherished his chocolate lab Dakota, and was very saddened by his passing a few years ago.

Over the years, Wayne faced many health challenges with courage, dignity, and as he would say “perseverance.” He will be sadly missed by Michelle and lovingly remembered by all.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 24th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52W, Steinbach, Manitoba. Private interment of the ashes will be held at a later date.

Thank you to the doctors and staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Grace Hospital ICU, and Steinbach Emergency paramedics. A special thank you to the Spiritual Health Department at Grace Hospital, and to Drs. Chris Burnett, Barry Cohen, and John Rabson for their care.

In lieu of flowers donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

“One Love! One Heart! Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.” (Bob Marley)
