Obituary

Corrine Warkentin was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on October 26, 1938, and passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, at the age of 80, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

Mom will be missed by all those who love her, including children: Wayne Warkentin, Dean (Bev) Warkentin, Scott Warkentin (Susan), Troy (Allison) Warkentin, Jenilyn (Mike) Babcock; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Corrine was predeceased by the love of her life, Alfred, in 2013.

Mom grew up in Steinbach with nine siblings and started her career in Winnipeg at the young age of 16 as a waitress at the Eaton’s lunch counter. Mom met Dad on a double date going to a dance in 1954. Mom and Dad dated since then and married in April of 1958. Mom was a homemaker for a number of years as Dad worked in the drywall business. They moved into their new home in Landmark in 1966, with four young boys where they started to farm, while continuing in the drywall business.

Mom successfully furthered her career ambitions in 1972, by graduating from Red River College with a Certificate as a Hair Stylist. Mom and Dad were blessed with a daughter in 1975.

Mom operated her own hair salon in the family home in Landmark for the next 34 years while raising her family and working together with Dad on the farm. In her later years Mom completed her GED and started a career outside the home.

Mom loved to travel with Dad, family and friends. Florida, Mexico, Dominican, Ecuador, Europe, St. Lucia, but her favorite was Hawaii. Mom and Dad had many date nights and loved going out for supper to various restaurants. The location was not important however their company together was.

Mom was involved in the Landmark EMC Church, taught girls club, served on the Landmark PTA, and loved to attend her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Mom has always been a free-spirited, elegant, and energetic woman. Along with her faith in Christ, this enabled her to be a loving and committed wife, a fantastic mother (although us children didn’t always give her an easy time of it), a wonderful sister, friend, and a bold, creative woman to all who knew her. Mom also had her private and individual side, which she cherished as her own. In her later years with Mom’s health struggles, she remained a strong fighter beyond all of our belief. We have learned to love and respect Mom and realize that all that Mom is has become an important part of us all.

Mom was thankful for all the help provided during her illness. A special thank you for those who cared for Mom during the past nine months is extended to the staff at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., followed by the burial at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. No public viewing will be held.

Donations in memory of Corrine may be made to the Bethesda Foundation, Unit 3-380 Stone Bridge Crossing, Steinbach, MB R5G 2R1.
