Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Glenora Janke (nee Baker) on January 16th, 2020 at the age of 84 years, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children,Stuart(Elaine), Lila (Cornel Wollmann), Verle-Ann (Mark Irvine), Dawn-Lynne (James Bedford); grandchildren, Theo (Carlie), Alyssa (Ryan), Tim (Catharine), Lachelle (Kevin), Tyler (Alisha), Braydon, Ethan (Rakhee), Garth, Travis, Amy, Meaghan (David), Janelle and Lindsey; great grandchildren, Leighton, Kane, Ella, Tessa and Zachary; sister, Dorothy Dixon; brother-in-law, Wilfred (Aileen) Janke; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Alexander, Ruth Murray, Lillian (Steve) Trappitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd, in January 2019; parents, Walter Baker and Chris (Baker) Bond; stepfather, Stephen Bond; brothers/sisters-in-law, Albert & Eleanor Janke, Gus & Ethel Recksiedler, Jack Murray, Don Alexander, and Michael Dixon.

Louise was born in Winnipeg, MB, the older of two daughters, and grew up on a farm near Lowe Farm, MB as well as in the town of Morris, MB. She worked as a telephone operator in Morris prior to marrying Lloyd on September 11, 1953. Once her children were older, she enjoyed returning to work as a librarian in the elementary schools in Morris and later in Morden, MB.

Louise lived a full, wonderful life dedicated to her family and friends whom she cherished. She had a deep affection for Lloyd, her husband of 66 years, and for her grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time. She had the gift of hospitality and loved to entertain, serving many delicious meals and making everyone happy. Louise also enjoyed baking, reading, flower gardening, biking, camping, square dancing, communicating and researching through the computer, and visiting and playing games with family and friends. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling and took many vacations together. All those who knew her appreciated her cheerfulness and smile, her warm heart and generosity.

Louise was a committed member of her faith communities: Lutheran Church of the Cross, Morris; Christ Lutheran Church, Morden; and Faith Lutheran Church, Winnipeg. She was an active member of the ELCIC ladies’ group serving in various capacities over the years.

Louise’s life was enriched by volunteering at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Tabor Home in Morden, as well as the Morden Community Thrift Store. When Lloyd and Louise moved to Winnipeg in 2001, they became involved in the Victor Mager School breakfast program and the Pastoral Care Volunteer Program at Faith Lutheran Church.

Thanks to family and friends for their thoughts, prayers, and visits; to the staff at Seine River Retirement Residence; Dr. Ponnampalam, nurse Carrie, and the staff at St. Boniface Cancer Care; and to everyone at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward.

Our loved ones never truly leave us, they live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. If love could have kept Louise alive, she would have lived forever.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1311 Dakota St. Winnipeg, MB R2N 1V8, or consider donating blood through the Canadian Red Cross.
