Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Helen Lavinia Wiebe. Helen was born October 13, 1926 to John and Katherine Bergen. She went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the age of 93.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Ronald Wiebe, her son-in-law Murray Gerbrandt, her great-grandson Levi Klassen, her parents and parents-in-law, one brother, four brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.

Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her children, Marie (Leonard), Kath (Mike), Wes (Lucille), Ken, Rhonda (Dale), Brad (Lori), Shannon as well as 19 grandchildren and their spouses and 26 great-grandchildren. As well as three sisters, three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.

Helen committed her life to Jesus at a young age and remained true to her faith to the end. Helen married Ronald on October 27, 1946 and they were married for nearly 50 years.

In Mom’s younger days she enjoyed her garden and the harvests were always plentiful. We all have memories of spending time in the garden and helping, especially with the pea shelling. Her relatives that came to visit would always leave with a share in the harvest. Later, when she no longer grew as much produce, she focused on flowers. Her flowerpots always outgrew anyone else’s.

After dad’s death, in 1996, mom took a job assisting those with special needs. She loved to serve her family and others. You could not visit mom without being offered and served something to eat and drink.

Mom had many friends, old and new. Everyone that met her felt special in her eyes. She had many special regular coffee dates with her friends that were very special to her. Mom’s long-time friend Laura was a friend from back when they were young moms. Now they lived in the same condo complex. They had a long and wonderful friendship. It was so special to hear them remember the old days; they had a lot of great adventures together.

The family would like to thank Silver Lining for her care over the last few years. Margaret, DeeDee and Ethel cared for her now at the end. Many others during her time with Silver Lining also took such good care of her and she counted every one as dear friends. We would also like to thank her home care nurses that came every day. A special thank you to Dr. Ilchyna and the hospital staff for making moms last days as comfortable as possible.
