Obituary

Our Dad, John Kaluzny, aged 89, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at Parkview Place, Winnipeg, MB

John was born on February 9, 1931 in the farmhouse in McMunn, Manitoba. He is predeceased by both parents, Anastasia and Nicholas Kaluzny and was the seventh of fifteen children.

John grew up on that same farm and along with his siblings they took care of the farm, cut cord wood to sell and hunted to feed everyone.

John married Frances (Blazeiko) on October 18, 1958 and is survived by Frances and their 3 children, Terry (Lilian), Karen (Douglas) and Kevin (Angie), by three grand children Hilary, Erica and Cintra, and by his Great grandson Alexander.

For a short time in his 20’s John moved to Hamilton, Ontario, following some of his older siblings, where he worked driving a dump truck and at a box factory. After a couple of years of the big city John, Frances, and Terry moved back to the farm in McMunn. John loved farming and he took over the farm in 1961 earning a living farming and logging in the winter months. He could often be seen on one of the John Deer tractors in the summer seeding, haying, harvesting and working the fields. John loved animals and was especially fond of watching deer roam the farm and woods where he worked, he even had a pet deer for a short time in his early years. In 1982 John retired the farm as he had previously transitioned to working as a fire ranger for the Natural Resources branch in Hadashville. In 1996 John retired from that job which and this was his official retirement.

John liked machinery, often talking about steam engine trains from his childhood and helicopters from his fire ranger days. He enjoyed relaxing on Sunday afternoons listening to Ukrainian, western and gospel music.

John spent his life providing for and taking care of his family, mentoring his children and loving Frances. He helped in any way that he could when ever he was needed both for family and friends. His message to family and friends “Love one another, don’t argue and get along”.

Rest peacefully dad, your family loves you and will deeply miss you.

The private family and close friends service will be held, Saturday, October 24, 2020, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Riverside Cemetery, Prawda, MB. Visit the Birchwood website for details on joining the family via livestream.
