Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our mother, Nay Sim Earth, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 85, at her home, the Grunthal Menno Home.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Sok Koeuth, and her two sons, Toul Koeuth and Wutty Koeuth.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her only daughter, Sytheth Koeuth, her three sons; Thearith (Chenda) Koeuth, Sy Koeuth and Suke (Pamela) Koeuth, her seven grandchildren; Sambeth Bo (Tristan Fast), Chanta Janssan (Brodie Janssan), Johnathan Bo, Kendrick Koeuth, Andrew Koeuth, Khean Koeuth and Khearra Koeuth, and her two great-grandchildren; Reuben Fast and Sage Janssan.

Mom was born on July 4, 1935 in the small village of Kampongcham, Cambodia. Her family (sisters and brother) was torn apart during the civil war in Cambodia and were never fully reunited. Her immediate family was also separated during the war and were reunited in later years. After the war, Mom made a life changing decision to walk with her children to a refugee camp along the Cambodia-Thai border. Eventually, the camp was relocated to Thailand for the safety of the refugees. The family lived in the refugee camp for four years before they were fortunately reunited with her oldest son Thearith, who had been separated from the family for 13 years and had been sponsored to relocate to Canada by the Steinbach Mennonite Church. After the church learned that the family had been reunited, they graciously sponsored the rest of the family, and they landed in Canada on July 9, 1984. We thank the Steinbach Mennonite Church for their willingness and generosity, and especially Dr. Paul Peters and his wife Dorothy for their guidance and support for many years. Mom lived independently to age 82 and spent her last 3 years in long term care due to her health conditions.

The family would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the staff at the Menno Home in Grunthal, for the love, care and compassion shown to Mom during her stay and final days.

To honour Mom’s wishes, a burial will take place on December 2, 2020 at the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach where we will lay her to rest.
