Obituary

Kumba Mansaray, age 41, of Steinbach, MB., passed away following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

She is survived by her daughter Musu and grandchild Maliyah, her son Sheiku, husband Lahai Kamara, nieces: Kadie and Fatu. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Sheiku in Sierra Leone.

She was predeceased by her mother Kainday Mansaray and father Alimamy Lahai V in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Kumba arrived in Canada on April 23, 2002, sponsored by Grace Mennonite Church with host families Dr. Paul and Dorothy Peters and Peter Dyck and Thelma Guenther. She came with her two small children and her two nieces after escaping the Sierra Leone war.

Mom was excited to begin again in Canada. She completed her grade 12 at the age of 25 years old at the SRSS and was taking business courses to further herself and provide for her four children. She gave herself to these challenges, in spite of her failing health.

She was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE), the most severe form of Lupus, which put a halt to her educating and made parenting her children difficult. Kumba won many battles with her illness. With the support of the community and church, she was able to continue to live at home up until two weeks prior to her passing.

Kumba was a big supporter of her four children and always hoped and prayed for a better life for them.

A come and go viewing will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB. Due to Covid-19 restrictions please stay in your vehicle until invited in.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church for invited guests. A livestream recording will be available a few days following the service.

A private interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.

If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kumba may be made to assist her children in their further educational endeavors.

Thank you to all the health care staff over the years of her illness for their care and support. A special thank you to Dr. Reimer and Dr. Grobler who cared for her ongoing needs.
